  • Accounts for one-third of all anomalies detected by routine fetal ultrasonography.
  • Increasing evidence suggest that certain abnormalities predispose to the development of chronic kidney disease (CKD), hypertension and cardiovasular disease (CVD) in adult life.
  • The diagnostic dilemma involves determining which lesions are obstructive and potentially harmful to the developing fetal kidney or lungs (pulmonary hypoplasia).
  • Mild fetal hemolytic disease of the newborn (HDN) (<9 mm) excellent prognosis: gp with physiological renal pelvic dilatation.
  • Moderate/severe fetal HDN (>10 mm): Poorer outcome-need more intense follow- up both antenatally and postnatally.
  • Collaborative approach between obstetrician, radiologist and pediatric nephrologist and pediatric urologist.
